Hambley et al. (2006) advocate that future research
on e-leadership be conducted in field
settings. They recommend that virtual teams
working on actual problem-solving tasks and
projects be examined to help capture the motivational
element that may not exist with ad hoc
groups working in the lab. A. Weisband (2008a)
argued, “Future research may want to consider
how we lead in environments that lack any central
coordination mechanism, or how multiple
leaders work together to innovate, create, and
help others” (p. 255).
