Along the coast, most residents are engaged in fishing and
fishing related activities as a source of livelihoods. Several tourist
facilities are located along the coast with a few of the beach-front
facilities reinforced with sea defences (Fig. 2). In the Elmina, Cape
Coast and Moree area, several communities are seasonally affected
by coastal flooding (Fig. 3). Erosion ‘hotspots’ are areas with
extremely high rates of erosion with potentially damaging consequences
to infrastructure located there.
