According to Federici (1999) the main reasons for the success of Bt include (i) the high
efficacy of its insecticidal proteins (ii) the existence of a diversity of proteins that are
effective against a range of important pests (iii) its relatively safety to nontarget insect
predators and parasites (iv) its easy to mass production at a relatively low cost, and (v) its
adaptability to conventional formulations and application technology.
