The system is able to indicate the azimuth of signals within a defined spectrum while
scanning. It is also possible to perform direction finding on individual channels. In such
cases, the system informs operators of the transmitter's direction by presenting the
data on a polar diagram in relation to geographic north.
Signals that are reflected by several objects cause distorted wave fronts and do not
authentically indicate the target's direction. For this reason, the direction finder
indicates how homogeneously the wave front reaches the DF antenna. This value is
called DF quality and indicates a bearing's reliability.
If the direction of the target(s) to be searched for is known, the direction finder can be
used to perform a frequency scan of a dedicated frequency range and azimuth sector.
Then the direction finder blanks azimuth sectors in order to concentrate exclusively on
the area of interest. Also, channels and frequency ranges that are not of interest can
be suppressed from the spectrum
