The concentration of carcinogenic heavy metals in water
samples from Ginfel river used for irrigation was in the order of
Cr4Pb4Ni4Co4Cd for Laelay Wukro and Cr4Co4Pb4
Ni4Cd for Tahtay Wukro. In both cases a high concentration of
Cr and low concentration of Cd was observed. The higher concentration
of Cr in the Tahtay Wukro is probably due to the
discharges of the Sheba Tannery. The order of the concentration of
these carcinogenic heavy metals in soils from the selected vegetable
irrigated farm lands was Ni4Cr4Co4Pb4Cd for both
Laelay and Tahtay Wukro
