This paper is the outcome of a larger research project aimed at gaining insights into the extent to which tertiary students are prepared to embrace changes heralded by the implementation of the so-called ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by the 10member Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) by December 31, 2015. The research was conducted at one of Thailand’s major private universities in late 2012. The focus of the research was to identify tertiary students’ levels of awareness both towards ASEAN and AEC integration and, incidental to these inquiries, whether knowledge levels and attitudes to integration varied between male and female students. Universities and all educational institutions in Thailand have been enlisted to play an active role, as participants and informants, in the processes of integration as part of ASEAN’s efforts to increase awareness and eliminate concerns and misunderstandings towards the intended role of the AEC (ASEAN Secretariat, 2012). The government, the Ministry of Commerce in particular, has also spearheaded various initiatives in collaboration with institutions of higher learning to raise the level of awareness among the academic population.
