Conclusion
Characteristic patterns of hypometabolism
on FDG-PET imaging are useful for the differential
diagnosis of dementias on a single case
basis. Parieto-temporal hypometabolism on
FDG-PET has a high sensitivity for differentiating
AD from the other dementia subtypes.
This approach can in no way replace a high
quality clinical assessment but can probably
add value to the diagnostic evaluation.
