4. DISCUSSION
It has been reported by many authors and supported by this literature review that ozone has an antimicrobicidal effect. Ozone may be effective as it is known to kill microorganisms by rupturing their cell walls and cytoplasmic membranes [19]. This involves chemical modification and fragmentation of mono unsaturated and poly- unsaturated fatty acids in the cell wall [20]. When the membrane is damaged, its permeability increases and ozone molecules can readily enter the cells [19].
