AL Value:
The M3 Digital LCR meter has the capability of calculating the AL value for unknown toroid cores. AL is
defined as the inductance index of a core. To calculate the number of turns required for a given inductance the
AL value of the toroid core must be known. The formula for calculating the number of turns is N= Ö (L/AL)
where N is the number of turns, L is the desired inductance (in Henries), and AL is the AL value as determined by
the M3 LCR meter (in Henries).
To determine the AL value of an unknown toroid, press the Menu key and then press the key under the right
arrow. Step through the menu options with the right arrow to the AL display option.
