Your device ask its nearest DNS server (in your domain) who the target device is

From FQDN, your nearest DNS server can know which domain the target device belongs to.

It will finally know the IP address of the target device, and return it to your device

Your device send a series of packets to the IP address of the target device

The route of a packet to the target device is dynamically chosen

When your packet is reached to the target device, the device analyze the contents of the packet to know which service should receive the packet
