It is best to assume that producing a piece of work is regarded by the student as a considerable achievement. Of course fluency will vary but many adults will produce many successive drafts before work is submitted even if it is not very long or complex in form. The absence of comment will, at the least, be discourteous and it may lead to discouragement, lack of confidence or decline interest. For the same reason any opportunity for a word of praise, even to less able students, should not be missed. Students will also be encouraged when their work is brought into the discussions of the class as a whole in a constructive manner.
