Garcinia mangostana Linn (mangosteen),is famed as the ‘Queen of tropical fruit’ because it is one of the best tasting fruits in the world. Much research has revealed that the red pigment from the fruit hulls of mangosteen canbe used as a natural dye source for dyeing since there are less harmful to health and do not cause allergies. This research would be to dye cotton and silk using mangosteen fruit crushing and Sepang .The dyeing experiments were carried out using alum mordant. The Mangosteen produced light brownish-yellow shades, while the Sepang wood produced deep red shades. Research, to subsequently dyed yarn, cotton, silk and wool, with extracts from the mangosteen fruit 1-2% of premordanting with Fe, Cu and Cr are best suited mordants .the hue color ranged from camel brown to dark chocolate brown.
