Boon Khao Lam Festival
“Boon Khao Lam” is a festival held for giving Khao Lam to Buddhist monks. The third lunar month is rice harvest season and most people is farmer so they use their primary crop from the first harvest called “Khao Mai” (new rice) which have very appetizing aroma to cook in giant thorny bamboo by roasting and give to Buddhist monks.
➢ It is traditionally festival of Laos Wieng and Lao Puan people in Phanom Sarakham district which is a community of Thai-Laos descent people neighboring with Thai-Khamer descent people. They might be held this festival since they were in Laos. Therefore it is considered as maintaining their traditional tradition they had practiced.
➢ In addition to making a merit, it is also a way of gathering and meeting for immigrant. Due to the first generation of Laos community was all came from Laos and then departed to reclaim the wood for making their lives. Making an appointment on holy day is considered as making a merit and bringing the racial warmth at the same time.
