NARATHIWAT -- Train services in the three southern border provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat resumed on Monday after an eight-day halt following the lethal bombing of a Sungai Kolok-Hat Yai train at Ban Nakhom Kok Pho station in Pattani's Khok Pho district on Sept 3.
The detonation of a bomb buried under the track killed a train employee and injured three other people. It also destroyed the rear half of the last carriage of train No.176 and wrecked the rails.
The attack forced the suspension of all train services between Hat Yai in Songkhla and Sungai Kolok station at the Malaysian border in Narathiwat.
Train services resumed on Monday after the completion of the track repairs.
Train No 448 to Surat Thani, left Sungai Kolok at 6.30am on Monday. It was the first train back into service, but there were few passengers. It is the Muslim Hari Raya holiday, when most people in the South attend morning prayers at mosques in their communities.
Other services were resuming according to schedule during the day.
