Fix Adobe Photoshop / Adobe Illustrator – Drag and Drop Not Working

Earlier this week we posted a fix for people running Microsoft Windows 8 and Adobe Products > Saving for the web and dragging and dropping between Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. However it quickly became apparent by running the adobe apps as Administrator causes dragging and dropping of images in folders to Photoshop / Illustrator / InDesign etc to not work.

The only really possible fix is to totally disable UAC (user account control).

However here is the issue, even when you think it’s disabled by pulling the bar to the bottom, it’s actually not, it’s still there and running!

Obviously disabling this causes masses of security issues so ensure you have anti virus / malware and firewall protection before following these steps.

So, How to fully disable UAC on Windows 8

(We are presuming you have installed Start8 in this tutorial)

Go to Start > Run > then type: regedit (then press enter).

The windows registry editor will now open.

You now need to follow this route through the registry editor:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Policies > System

Then Find this Key EnableLUA, Double Click on it and change the Value data from 1 to 0.

After pressing OK you’ll notice in the task bar a message pops up saying UAC is now disabled and a restart is required.

After the restart everything will run as it did on Windows 7, Ensure you’ve untagged “Run as Administrator” on your app shortcuts.
