Hospitals in Taiwan are classified into three basic hierarchical
categories depending on their main functions and are generally
classified by the hospital’s capacity (i.e. medical centers contain
500 beds or more and regional hospitals contains 250 beds or
more). To ensure sample homogeneity, this empirical analysis uses
only nursing stations of accredited medical centers and regional
hospitals located in Taiwan. Another major reason for this selection
is that organizational memory system usually exists in larger hospitals
and not private clinics. Accordingly, the nursing station is the
main place of work of medical care staff, and is also where resources,
materials and knowledge are stored. This empirical analysis
uses the questionnaire with closed structured questions as the
main method of data collection. The procedure of this study randomly
obtains samples from membership records of various nurse
stations of medical centers and regional hospitals in Taiwan
involving registered professional nurses and registered nurses, all
with experience of teamwork. In the pre-test stage, this study selected
30 medical workers from five hospitals (25 nurses and five
head nurses). The results show that each construct’s Cronbach a
is higher than 0.8 and that all items are appropriate for future
surveys.
