This paper analyzes the effective ness of damping resonance vibrations of a spring using a new method of
local coating smade of highly-damping material coveringitslastcoils,aswellastheinfluence ofthese
coatings onthemaximumvaluesofdynamicstressesandthevaluesofnaturalvibrationfrequenciesof
springs. Itisshownthatwhileanelastomericcoatingappliedonthewholelengthofspringwirealways
causes adecreaseinthe first naturalfrequencyofthespring,applicationofthesameamountofdamping
material onlyonitsend-coilsmayleadtoanincreaseinthisfrequency.Themathematicalmodelderived
in thepaperallowsuserstocalculatetheeffectivenessofdynamicstressreductionbothinthespring
and thecoatingitself,forarbitrarygeometricalandmaterialpropertiesofcoatings.Thenumerical
examplespresentedtoillustratethederivedmodelconfirm theadvantageouspropertiesoflocal
elastomeric coatings.
