Pierce, Gardner, Cummings, and Dunham (1989) define organization-based
self-esteem ‘‘as the degree to which organizational members believe that they can satisfy
their needs by participating in roles within the context of an organization’’ (p. 625) and
as ‘‘. . .the degree to which an individual believes him=herself to be capable, significant,
and worthy as an organizational member’’ (Pierce & Gardner, 2004, p. 593). OBSE
describes the feelings of worth or value employees feel within their workplace.
