Our VR environment was inspired by the story of Alice in
Wonderland (Fig. 1). The host (March Hare) functions as a virtual
therapist directing the user (his guest) to perform tasks requiring
repetitive grasp-and-release and individuated finger movements in
the course of interacting with the numerous animated objects in
the scene. Our presentation will demonstrate several of the strokes pecific
tasks designed to replicate activities from daily life. We
are currently working to integrate an assistive haptic interface, the
pneumatically actuated glove (PneuGlove) (Fig. 2), with the VR
environment prior to the start of clinical trials.
