The RN-
mutation has only been found in Hampshire pigs
or crossbred pigs including Hampshire with high glycogen
content, and not in any other pig breed (Milan et al., 2000).
Due to the negative effect of the RN- allele on technological
meat quality, most countries and breeding companies would
like to eliminate the mutation. With the mutation identified
this can easily be achieved. However, the positive effects of
the RN- allele on eating quality should be considered.
