We begin this chapter by describing the basic information processing operations performed to update the general ledger and to prepare reports for both internal management and external users. Next, we discuss major control threats in the general ledger and reporting cycle and the control procedures that can be used to mitigate them. We conclude the chapter by examining some important decisions that require information from the general ledger and discuss several new developments that improve the quality of reports produced by accounting systems.
