How will EIPs affect the future of industrial development?
EIPs can be a source for renewal of old
industrial sights and EIPs can be located where industrial
development was previously not suitable. One of
the objectives of an EIP is to be able to integrate into a
mixed commercial or residential area. The residents
and businesses in this area could even be one of the partners in the EIP, as in the heat exchange relationship
between the power plant at Kalundborg and the
local residents. This mixed use would reduce the
traditional practice of locating industries on the outskirts
of towns. EIPs will not completely replace
traditional industrial parks. There will still be a need
for heavy industries. However, these heavy industries
could become the foundation for a partnership with
resource recovery and recycling companies. New
technologies in recycling and resource recovery are
continually being developed, expanding the possibilities
for eco-industrial partnerships.
