This paper deals with an application of lean methodology to the field of transportation, and in particular to
vehicle routing. It contributes with an approach to identify and eliminate specific waste associated to the
transportation of goods. This scheme is applied to the distribution network of a bottled beverage of an
important Mexican firm. The strategy for reducing waste is in the process of implementation, with an
advance of 35%, and estimating an important reduction in transportation cost of 31.6% approximately due
primarily to a reduction on labor and fuel costs.
