(Philoscia muscorum (Scopoli, 1763)). The abundance and species richness of both woodlice and millipedes was markedly higher in May than September (month was significant, P < 0.001 in all models). Total woodlouse abundance was significantly lower at the interior (F1,67 ¼ 6.62 P ¼ 0.012) compared to the edge and the difference was most pronounced in May at the start of the experiment (Fig. 2a). Woodlouse species richness did not differ between the interior and edge (P > 0.05) (Fig. 2b). There was no significant interaction between watering treatment and month (P > 0.05), indicating that the watering treatment did not have an effect on woodlouse abundance or species richness (Fig. 2a and b).
