Both linearly and circularly polarized antennas are used in common RFID supply
chain applications. Linear antennas propagate only on a single plane, so they
are either horizontally or vertically polarized. Linear antennas have a more focused
beam than a circular antenna, and as a result, more power is realized on a
single plane in the IZ compared to circular antennas. Therefore, linear antennas
achieve longer read ranges and better penetration of dense objects than circular
antennas.
