In the air ,the received signal strength is decaying with distance square , which is introduced by the Friis radio transmission formula[1] . The received signal strength in soil is decaying much faster than air due the high attenuation of radio propagation in soil medium[2]. An accurate and simple radio propagation model for underground low-power devices such as wireless sensor nodes is introduced and its performance is evaluated by real wireless sensor nodes (MICAz) [1].
