Roch Frey has trained three winners of the famously evil Hawaii Iron Man Triathlon,
which puts masochists through a 3.8 km. swim,
180 kg. bike ride and 42 km. run in baking heat.
Getting ready for that is enought to put most people in hospital;
Frey's plan calls for four-hour bike rides on Saturdays followed
by a 20-minute swim.....and that's the easy day.
There are aerobic and anerobic(intense,fast-paced exercise that deprives
your body of oxygen) swim sessions of up to 4 km, anerobic bike riding galore,
and lots of fartlek running.
Before you get the wrong idea,
fartlek means "speed play" in Swedish and involves constant running at a variety of paces,
from sprints to slow jogs.
And all this is just the first six weeks of his 24-week plan.
Before you tackle training for the race,
you should be able to to the following without dying: run 25 time a month at the rate
of 100 km a week,
swim 25 km per week,
and swim 14 day in a row
