ling for grain size reduction and for uncovering the semiconductor layer. The semiconductor layer was removed in a wet mechanical attrition process. The pre-concentration of the CIS- and CdTe-fines was done by wet mechanical processes like flotation. Of course, the CdTe flotation products need to be purified to semiconductor- grade material to be useful for the production of new modules. According to the LCA study, the proposed recycling process has clear advantages in comparison with land-filling and incineration options and there are still possibilities to optimize both recycling strategies regarding energy consumption.
