This chapter reports on the findings of a doctoral study that comprised different empirical studies, each focusing on different research questions. Two quasi-experimental studies were set up within the same context, the second study focused on specific results found in the first study. We will start by introducing the rationale for this doctoral study (also research project). Subsequently, we will briefly introduce the theory on student learning that was adopted throughout this research project. For a more detailed explanation, we would like to refer the reader to the first chapter of this book. Next, we will discuss which variables were investigated and why. The second section will focus on the theoretical background of these variables. After a brief introduction with the methodology (section 3), the findings of this research project will be presented. In this chapter, we will primarily focus on the conclusions that can be derived from the entire research project (section 4). The fifth and final section will discuss the future research perspectives within this field.
