The absence of significant relations
between communication and job attitudes might be explained by the fact that learning does
not solely take place through interpersonal communication. Employees’ pattern of seeking
information varies with the type of information sought (Morrison, 1993a, 1993b). For
instance, employees can also learn to master their tasks by monitoring colleagues or by
reading an instruction manual. Future studies might like to include different strategies of
seeking information in order to provide a more comprehensive picture of the relationship
between task-related learning and employees’ job attitudes.
