The equipment used for the treatments is provided,
maintained and installed by one of two alternative dialysis equipment suppliers, who also provide patients with dialysis related disposables (e.g. fluids, dialyzers and filters etc). In addition, the hospital district’s central warehouse provides the HHD unit with additional disposables (e.g. tubes, needles and bandages etc). The HHD unit functions as a logistics hub for coordinating the orders and shipments, based on information received from the patients. The dialysis equipment suppliers handle the actual transportation; collect all disposables and transport them to the patients either on a weekly or biweekly basis. In order to enable dialysis at home some plumbing and electricity rework is performed by an outside contractor at the patient’s residence. All these parties form a supply network that on a timely basis provides the patient with the equipment, disposables and guidance needed to enable successful HHD therapy. This part of the supply network is characterized by a well working process with predefined sequence which can be easily scheduled.
