Scraper type effect
The effect of the adaptable scrapers yields a heat flux
augmentation of around two times compared with the rigid
scrapers, showing a slight dependency with DTlog values:-
larger DTlog values lead to slightly higher heat fluxes (see
Fig. 8).
Regarding the heat transfer coefficient (Fig. 9), the use of
the adaptable scrapers retrieves again two-fold augmentations
of h compared to the rigid system. As opposed to the heat
flux trend, heat transfer coefficients are in general slightly
higher for the lowest values of DTlog value. This can be
explained considering that higher supercooling degrees (DTs)
lead to faster growth rates, resulting in thicker ice layers on
the plate surface (Qin et al., 2009).
