Diagnosis.—Metamorphosed females of P. balushkini
differ from those of P. micractis, the only
other member of the genus, in having a longer
illicium (16.0–20.8% SL vs 11.5–12.6% SL); a
single anterior escal appendage (vs two), bifurcated
only at distal tip; and a considerably longer,
more slender, distal escal appendage (36.4–
57.6% SL vs 6.4–15.8% SL). In addition, P. balushkini
probably has smaller, less well-developed
snout flaps, but the skin of the snout of three
of the five known specimens is torn away, making
proper assessment of this character impossible.
