Walking Dead Spinoff Character Will Be in Six Episodes of Season 6? Rumor Patrol!
Um ... what? The Walking Dead spinoff, which is rumored to be titled Fear The Walking Dead, is reportedly a prequel set in Los Angeles following new characters in a new setting and it's meant to be "startlingly different" from The Walking Dead main show. It's not even supposed to be a spinoff, as Robert Kirkman explained, because no main show characters are being "spun" off into their own series.
So we're a wee bit confused by this new exclusive scoop from Nerdist News. Nerdist is run by Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick, although the Nerdist reporter took pains to note that even their “fearless leader" Chris didn't know about the rumor.
Here's the Nerdist News scoop:
*Spoilers ahead*
"Our sources tell us that at least one of the characters who will be leading The Walking Dead spinoff will be appearing for a six-episode arc in Season 6 of The Walking Dead. They'll cross paths with Team Rick in Georgia before presumably making their way toward the West Coast for the L.A.-based show." They later wondered, if the spinoff is a prequel and we'll see characters in Season 6, does that mean there will be flashbacks or will we see grizzled older version of the spinoff characters?
None of this makes sense.
First of all, there's not supposed to be a crossover between the main show and the spinoff — and no the rumored CDC character doesn't count, since the CDC has a national tie, not a tie to our characters.
Second, Season 6 hasn't even come close to starting production, so how would they know someone has a six-episode arc? They just started filming the spinoff this week, and based on past TWD seasons, they should just be starting the writing process for Season 6 episodes this month or early February, with filming to start in May.
Third, why would the spinoff group cross paths with Rick's group in Georgia when they shouldn't even be in Georgia for the second half of Season 5, never mind Season 6? By Season 6, they should be at the Alexandria Safe-Zone, maybe visiting other communities like Hilltop and The Kingdom. Would this spinoff character be at one of those communities and the spinoff shares their origin story or something? Eh.
Fourth, if a spinoff character is in six episodes of Season 6 leading up to the companion show launch, that would mean it wouldn't premiere until late 2015 at the earliest. We wanted it this summer!
It's possible this rumor is legit, but it doesn't fit with anything that's been said before. Then again, there’s rarely any logic or consistency to this world, so it may be 100 percent true. But we’re hoping it’s just misdirection.
What do you think of the idea of having one of the spinoff characters have a six-episode arc in Season 6? Do you hope it’s true or false?
