Sensing above and touching below Architects: Patchara Wongboonsin, Ornnicha Duriyaprapan Location: Newark, New Jersey, USA Honorable Mention Winner Live the box International Competition AIA Newark and Suburban and the Young Architect Brief: Multi-family Mix use This project aims to create and organic parametric shape of the building by utilizing shipping container to form a unique stacking structure, while integrating into the site. The structure of the building is shifting and rotating to maximize the natural light and natural ventilation in affecting a pleasant living and working conditions. Each residential unit has their own view to the sky, fresh air from all windows as well as its own garden right in front of their units. The ground floor of the complex will serves for business center and leisure facilities. They include retail stores, business offices, car park, and a 3-dimentional public plaza to form a gateway of Newark. From the cluster units, it can create variation out of the same stacking condition by having the rotating point in the middle part of the roof of the box on the bottom. The organic parametric form from the shift-stacking module can be generating to fit to variations of shape, and by the different program so it can be integrated with the context.
