It has been shown that under conditions of LA deficiency,
LA is substituted by oleic acid in epidermal acylceramides(26),
which has been associated with an increased TEWL, perturbations
of the intercellular membranes and an altered epidermal
homeostasis(27). Thus, an increased LA supply may
contribute to improved skin parameters. ALA and GLA may
also affect skin homeostasis along this line.
