CHECKING FOR UNDERSTANDING
At the culmination of an instruction-demonstration episode, one technique that effective teachers use is to quickly test the children to be sure they understand the instruction and the demonstration. This is called checking for understanding. One way to do this is to demonstrate a component incorrectly (or correctly). The children are asked to raise their hands only if the component was done correctly. For example, “Now I am going to do another balance. If my balance is symmetrical, raise your hand.”
