We measured protein concentration, SH concentration and
tryptophan fluorescence in the fraction of soluble proteins. Tryptophan
is very sensitive to ultraviolet radiation which was the reason
to analyze the intrinsic fluorescence spectra of the hair proteins in
this study. The intrinsic fluorescence spectra (excitation wavelength
– 290 nm) showed the fluorescence maximums near
350 nm (typical for tryptophan) and near 420 nm. The latter signal
is usually considered to be a sign of the presence of tryptophan
photooxidation products that were formed by UVR [13,14].
