Change your font settings
You can choose which fonts appear in your programs and how you want fonts to be installed on your computer. For more information about fonts, see Fonts: frequently asked questions. For information about installing and deleting fonts, see Install or delete fonts.
Note
These settings might not apply to all of your programs.
To see only the fonts that will work with your language settings
Windows can hide fonts, based on your input language settings, in programs that allow you to select a font. You can let Windows show and hide fonts automatically, or you can choose to see all of the fonts installed on your computer in your programs. For information about input language settings, see Add or change an input language.
Click to open Fonts.
In the left pane, click Font settings.
Make sure that the Hide fonts based on language settings check box is selected. If it's not, select it, and then click OK.
Tip
To see all installed fonts in your programs, clear the Hide fonts based on language settings check box, and then click OK.
To show and hide fonts manually
You can also show or hide fonts individually by using the Show and Hide buttons.
Click to open Fonts.
Select a font, and then click Show or Hide.
To restore the default font settings
You can remove any changes that you've made to your display settings.
Click to open Fonts.
In the left pane, click Font settings.
Click Restore default font settings.
Note
This also removes all manual changes that you've made to your display settings.
To install font files using a shortcut
To save space on your computer, you can allow fonts to be installed using a shortcut instead of installing a copy of the font file each time.
Click to open Fonts.
In the left pane, click Font settings.
Select the Allow fonts to be installed using a shortcut (advanced) check box, and then click OK.
Note
If a font file becomes unavailable or if you can't connect to the location of the file, you might not be able to use the font.
