The final paragraph of the Aramaic report (Ezra4:8-6:18) relates the dedication of the temple. For the first time in the Aramaic report the people are called “Israelites,” but they are also called “the exiles” for the first time (Ezra6:16). The report is emphasizing that these people were who they said they were then they reported to Tattenai (Ezra5:11-16).They had been Israelites taken into captivity by Nebuchadnezzar, but now were joyfully celebrating the fulfilling of God’s gracious decree under the good graces of their Persian king.
