Mixed Powders with carbides. To evaluate the amount of retained austenite in SKD 11 tool steels
a lot of dissolved carbide, 3% and 15% WC powders were added to the mixed austenitic and
martensitic powder. A PANalytical X-ray diffractometer with a Cu-target tube operated at 45kV and
40 mA was used to obtain the XRD patterns for the mixed powders at a scanning rate of 1°/min. The
preferred orientation in the specimen should be carefully considered in calculating the amount of
retained austenite. Because the (110) peak of martensite may overlap the (111) the austenite peak,
they were not chosen to calculate the amount of austenite.
