Total soluble phenolics were measured as described in Marinova et al. (2005) with some modifications. Briefly, 1 mL of methanolic extract was mixed with 1 mL of Folin-Ciocalteu’ phenol reagent by manual shaking. After 10 min, 10 mL of 7% Na2CO3 were added to the mixture. The solution was diluted to 25 mL with distilled water. After incubation for 90 min in the dark at room temperature, the absorbTotal flavonoids content was measure dusing analuminum chloride (AlCl3) colorimetric assay (Zhishen et al., 1999). Briefly, 1 mL of methanolic extract was diluted to 5 mL with distilled water, and 0.3 mL of NaNO2 (5%, w/v) and 3 mL of AlCl3 (10%, w/v) were then added in succession. After 5 min, 3 mL of NaOH were added, and the solution was diluted to 10 mL with distilled water. The absorbance at 510 nm was measured. Total flavonoid content (catechin equivalents) on a fresh weight basis was expressed as g kg−1.ance was measured at 750 nm. Total phenolic content was calculated using gallic acid as a standard. Total phenolics content was expressed as gallic acid equivalents on a fresh weight basis in g kg−1.
