Kimchi was collected from local restaurant; serial dilutions were
made in saline and spreaded on de Man, Rogosa and Sharpe (MRS)
agar plate followed by an overnight incubation at 37 Single
representative colony was transferred to new MRS agar plate. Once
pure culture was obtained, antimicrobial activity was determined
against different pathogenic strains. Isolated strain we named it as a
DGK-17. Identification of DGK-17 was performed at the 16s rRNA
sequencing facility of GenoTech Corp. (Pohang, Korea). The ob-tained DNA sequence was analyzed by using BLAST program provided by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)
and phylogenetic tree was constructed Fig. 1. Pathogenic bacteria
used in this study were as follows: Two clinical isolates:P. aerugi-nosa 03K711, K. pneumoniae 05K279; food-borne pathogens:
Escherichia coli (Human), Salmonella typhimurium ATCC 14028,
Bacillus subtilisKCTC 6633,Bacillus cereusATCC 14579,Listeria
monocytogenes(strains ATCC 19116, ATCC 19118, ATCC 19111, ATCC
15313, ATCC 19166), and a Skin pathogen:Staphylococcus aureus
KCTC 1916. The DGK-17 was cultured in de Man, Rogosa and Sharpe
(MRS) medium and other pathogenic bacterial strains were grown
in Luria Bertani broth and Mueller Hinton Agar purchased from
acumedia (Lansing, MI, USA)
