Texts selected to be read aloud are usually too difficult for the children to read on their on their own and, quite often ,too difficult for them to read in guided reading context. However, the texts should be at children’s listening comprehension level and be of interest to them. Their listening comprehension can be greatly enhanced through listening to teachers reading aloud, since they gain exposure to new vocabulary, concepts, sentence structures and text types.
