1.1.3 AEROSPACE ENGINEERING AT MIT
16.00x is based on an on-campus course at MIT, 16.00 Introduction to Aerospace Design, which has been taught in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics for a number of years. Much of the content in 16.00x is representative of a first-year introductory course in aerospace engineering.
As we will discuss in Section 1.4.2, aerospace engineering is a rich field that is comprised of many diverse, yet interconnected disciplines. At MIT, the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics ("AeroAstro" for short) has a long history of excellence in aerospace engineering, which dates back over 100 years. Some of that history is captured in the video below, which should give you a better sense of what MIT AeroAstro has to offer.
