an important cofactor in major metabolic pathways in
the body (NRC, 2005) such as oxidative phosphorylation
(Vitale et al., 1957) and the transfer of P between
adenosine triphosphate, adenosine diphosphate,
and adenosine monophosphate leading to adenosine
triphosphate formation (Leeson and Summers, 2001).
