With the vast penetration of the Internet, e-commerce has emerged as a new economic activity transcending the boundaries of time and location associated with conventional trade. According to the OECD, the worldwide e-commerce market amounted to 26 billion dollars in 1997, and is expected to grow one trillion dollars annually between 2001 to 2002. E-commerce in Korea is expected to skyrocket to 3.78 trillion won in 2002 from 150 billion won in 1999. In order to strengthen the security and reliability of e-commerce, the MIC will work to protect personal information and consumer rights, and establish a quick delivery system.
