Responsibility
A lawyer has various responsibilities . He keeps the client informed without undue delays . He also represents the client professionally and within the law . He is also under obligation to maintain the lawyer-client confidentiality except in very remote cases . A lawyer should be loyal to the client and must avoid conflict of interests between two different clients . He should also ensure he separates his personal property from the client 's property (Swartz 2001
Task
A lawyer gives legal advice to clients . This basically means that he advises the clients in regard to the application of the principles of law in relation to the client 's facts of a given case and consequently the appropriate step to take . Usually , a lawyer makes his presentation in court in form of documents . He therefore has the responsibility of drafting the legal documents to be presented in court A lawyer also represents a client in court by arguing for and on behalf of the client . The lawyer also conducts legal research to ensure that he gives the right legal opinion to his client (Mantis ,1997
Qualifications Required
It is a general requirement that a person must be licensed or admitted to the bar in
to practice law . Any applicant for the admission must pass a written bar examination . For an applicant to qualify for the bar examination he must be a holder of a college degree and a graduate off law school recognized by the American Bar Association . The accredited college and law school education usually takes seven years of full time study .
