“Curricular content” includes organising knowledge into subjects or disciplines. It considers the central question in curricular development: what should university teach? The subject-based knowledge has been challenged by more recent views of knowledge, such as culture-based (Powers, 2006; Young, 2008), employment-based (Benefer, 2007; Choy et al., 2008; Evans et al., 2008) and student-based (Stes et al., 2008; Wiggan, 2007). The criteria for selecting content suggested by McGee are validity, significance, interest, learnability and consistency with social reality.
