Warp and weft repeats
The repeat is one of the basic characteristics of the weave patterns.
The questions where to stop the transformation from the
musical score to the weave pattern is very logical, as even the
monotonous child song can have dozens of notes.
It can be seen that the musical staff itself limits the repeat in
weft direction: perhaps it can reach 15 or 20 threads, but in rare
cases. The same is not valid for the repeat in warp direction:
it can be as big as long is the musical piece, but just theoretically.
Practically, the repeat of the warp threads is limited by the
shedding mechanism of the available weaving machine and the
designer has to take this into account.
In fact, there is no limitation which part of the musical piece
can be taken into consideration for the transformation: it is just
the inspiring precondition. The samples, presented in the study
show different approaches in this sense: from the use of the
almost whole notation of a short, popular song, to the transformation
of couple of times from a complicated classical piece.
